Chief of Defence of Lithuania will attend the meeting of the EU Military Committee

imgNovember 4, Chief of Defence of Lithuania Maj. Gen. Arvydas Pocius will participate in the meeting of the EU Military Committee in Brussels, Belgium. The meeting is planned to focus on the points of development of the EU military capabilities and the EU-led operations.

 

The EU Military Committee is made of Chiefs of Defence of the EU member states. The highest EU military structure leads military operations of the EU member states and advises to the EU Political and Security Committee responsible for formation of Common Foreign and Security Policy (CSPF). The Military Committee is currently chaired by Gen. Henri Bentégeat.

„Eurofighter

imgNovember 2, after two months in service fighter-jets „Eurofighter" of German Air Force were replaced by „Phantom" F-4F on the NATO Baltic Air-policing mission.

 

Four „Eurofighter" fourth generation fighter-jets of the German Air Force Fighter Wing 74 returned to their permanent base in Neuburg a.d. Donau, state of Bavaria, after the Baltic Air-policing mission and their first deployment on an international mission beyond Germany's borders. Their substitute, six fighter-jets „Phantom" F-4F, came from Vittmund Air Base of the German Air Force in the Lower Saxony.

The Commanding General of U.S. Army Europe and 7th Army and Command of the Lithuanian Armed Forces discussed possibilities of cooperation in training Lithuanian troops

imgThe Commanding General of U.S. Army Europe (USAREUR) and 7th Army Gen. Carter F. Ham who has been visiting Lithuania on November 2-3 discussed cooperation possibilities in training troops with leadership of the Lithuanian Armed Forces.

The decision was adopted to conduct joint training for the US, Lithuanian, Latvian and Estonian troops. Joint training will be annually hosted by on of the Baltic States on a rotational basis with the first event taking place in Latvia in the autumn of the following year.

Outbreak of influenza at the Military Academy under control

Military medics taking care of cadets of the Lithuanian Military Academy say that the outbreak of flu is held under control.

According to the Head of the Primary Military Healthcare Centre Maj. Vidmantas Kontrauskas, only eight of cadets suffer from typical symptoms of pandemic flu - high temperature, coughing, pain of muscles and joints. Today they will undergo identification tests of the pandemic flu virus.

Six cadets of the Lithuanian Military Academy were found ill with the new pandemic flu virus.

 

On November 3 specimens taken from the ill cadets were tested at the Infectious Diseases and Aids Centre, six of them were found ill with the novel pandemic influenza  A(H1N1) also known as "swine flu".

King Mindaugas Mechanised Infantry Battalion assessed as ready for duty in the EU Battlegroup

imgOctober 30, „Quick Response " evaluation field training of the King Mindaugas Mechanised Infantry Battalion 1st Motorised Infantry Company and its subordinate detachments concluded in Pajuostis (Panevėžys Region).

 

The exercise which lasted from October 23 to 30 was tailored to evaluate readiness of a company preparing for duty in the EU Battlegroup and its logistic support unit for conducting stabilisation operations. They were joined in the training event by the staff of Mindaugas Battalion, mortar, headquarters and communications platoons, engineering and military police divisions, and CIMIC company, around 280 personnel in total.

Command and staff officers of the Motorised Infantry Brigade „Iron Wolf

From October 26 to November 6, command and principal staff officers of the Lithuanian Armed Forces MIB „Iron Wolf" will participate in an international exercise „Loyal Jewel 2009" in Norway. The exercise takes place in the NATO Joint Warfare Centre based in Stavanger.

 

„Loyal Jewel 2009" is designed to train and evaluate readiness of land component HQ, and headquarters of air component and logistic components of NRF-14 to fulfil their tasks. As a part of the exercise other components are deployed in NATO commands in Denmark, Portugal and Germany. The „Loyal Jewel 2009" exercise is organised by the NATO Joint Command Lisbon.
