New Defence Attaché of Spain accredited to Lithuania 2009-10-27

Leadership of the Lithuanian Armed Forces and the Baltic Defence College met 2009-10-27
![]() October 27, Chief of Defence of Lithuania Maj. Gen. Arvydas Pocius met with Commandant of the Baltic Defence College Brig. Gen. Gundars Abols and the Dean of BALTDEFCOL Dr. James S. Corum at the Defence Staff of the Ministry of National Defence.
During the meeting further plans of improvement of education programmes at the Baltic Defence College were discussed as well Lithuania's contribution to development and fulfilment of education programmes. |

Medics of PRT-9 gave hope of life for a seriously injured Afghan boy 2009-10-27

According to the boy's father, his son suffered head injury when falling from a donkey - his parents found him lying unconscious and in that condition was taken to the Chaghcharan hospital. When the child did not recover consciousness after four days, Chaghcharan doctors turned for help to PRT medics. After an examination military medics diagnosed a grave head trauma that required special diagnostic equipment found only at the higher level hospitals in Herat and Kabul. |

Lithuanian operations forces for peacetime tasks will enter standby in 2010 2009-10-27

Peacetime tasks operations forces comprising around 700 personnel were formed this year. Every unit of the Lithuanian Land Force will rotate on an annual basis to fulfil functions of the operations forces. The first rotation next year will be taken up by the Grand Duchess Birutė Motorised Infantry Battalion, Juozas Vitkus Engineering Battalion, the Duke Vaidotas Forward Support Battalion, and troops of Territorial Units of the National Defence Volunteer Force. |

Tenth rotation of Provincial Reconstruction Team deployed to Afghanistan 2009-10-26
![]() October 26, deployment ceremony for the tenth shift of the Lithuanian-led Ghowr Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT-10) before the mission in Afghanistan was held in Alytus. The event was attended by the Minister of National Defence Rasa Juknevičienė, Chief of Defence Maj. Gen. Arvydas Pocius, Commander Land Force Brig. Gen. Jonas Vytautas Žukas, leadership of Alytus City, District and Region, guests, and families of soldiers. The solemn ceremony will begin by celebration of a holy mass after which the event will proceed to the Town Hall Square where a solemn parade will take place. |

![]() October 26, deployment ceremony of the tenth rotation of the Lithuanian-led Chaghcharan Provincial Reconstruction Team will be held in Alytus, Town Hall Square. Minister of National Defence Rasa Juknevičienė, Chief of Defence Maj. Gen. Arvydas Pocius, representatives of Alytus Town, District and Region administrations, guests and families of the departing troops will attend the event. The solemn ceremony will begin by celebration of a holy mass after which the event will proceed to the Town Hall Square where a solemn parade will take place. |

Minister of National Defence will take part in informal NATO Defence Ministers' meeting in Bratislava 2009-10-22
![]() October 22, Minister of National Defence Rasa Juknevičienė left for Bratislava to attend a two-day informal meeting of NATO Defence Ministers. The Minister will be accompanied by the Chief of Defence of Lithuania Maj. Gen. Arvydas Pocius.
The meeting in Slovakia will be held to exchange views on the complicated situation that has developed in Afghanistan after the presidential elections. The Allied Defence Ministers will provide an assessment of security situation in the operation region, and the progress made by NATO in fulfilling the political-military plan. NATO priorities for 2010 will be looked at: the need of upgrading ISAF, ensuring security of civilian Afghans, providing proper training for national security forces of the country, and increase contribution to reconstruction and development projects in the country. |
