Exposition „Look, Afghanistan is near, you can help too

imgSeptember 2, in Ieva Simonaitytė Public Library in Klaipėda exposition „Look, Afghanistan is near, you can help too" was opened.

In the library pieces of Ghowr women's needlework, national Afghan costumes, material from archaeological expeditions conducted by Lithuanians in Ghowr, information about children's home in Ghowr, books of Lithuanian folk tales translated into Dari, pictures and documentary studies were put up for demonstration.

Ship of Lithuanian Naval Force „Jotvingis

imgOn August 28-September 11 command and supply ship „Jotvingis"(N42) of Lithuanian Naval Force will attend multinational mine clearance operation in the Baltic Sea „Open Spirit 09" held in territorial waters and exclusive economic zone of Estonia. It is the largest multinational mine clearance operation held in the Baltic Sea this year. Mine clearance actions will be conducted by 16 ships coming from navies of 7 states: Denmark, Estonia, Latvia, Poland, Lithuania, France, and Sweden.

NATO Baltic Air-policing mission prolonged to 2014

imgOn August 31 North Atlantic Council approved the decision to prolong Baltic Air-policing mission till the end of 2014.

„The decision to prolong the mission signifies the importance the Allies attach to ensurment of security in the Baltic States and their resolution to make practical steps by deployment their capabilities in our region", - said Minister of National Defence Rasa Juknevičienė.

Lithuania celebrates Freedom Day on August 31. 16 years ago last divisions of Soviet Army left Lithuania's territory.

Minister of National Defence Rasa Juknevičienė noted about the historical event: „From the historical perspective World War II for Lithuania ended on 31 August 1993. With the last Soviet echelon effect of WWII was removed and Lithuanian nation could finally take a breath - military force of occupant state was pulled out. After long decades we finally had a chance to celebrate the Peace Day, really honestly."

Reporters of Lithuanian National Television visited PRT-9 mission in Afghanistan

imgMore than 20 media representatives from 11 states have visited Ghowr to cover activities of the Lithuanian-led PRT-9 this year. Reporters of Lithuanian National Television Vykintas Pugačiauskas and Reda Hofmanaitė stayed in the PRT-9 HQ in Chaghcharan, capital of Ghowr, for two weeks on August 15-29.
