On January 10, the Day of Defenders of Freedom, traditional international marathon ”On the way of life and death" will be held in the streets of Vilnius to commemorate fallen defenders of Lithuanian freedom for the XVIIIth time.

NATO Baltic Air-policing mission will be transferred to Danish Contingent

Air Force Contingents conducting Baltic Air-policing mission will rotate during a ceremony at the Lithuanian Air Force Aviation Base in Siauliai, January 4. US troops who have been guarding Baltic airspace till present will transfer the mission to the Danish Contingent.

Accreditation ceremony was attended by the MoND Undersecretary for Defence Policy and International Relations Andrius Krivas, Ambassador of Estonia in Lithuania Tiit Naber, and representatives of MoND.

PRT-8 provided medical assistance for Chaghcharan police

Medical personnel of PRT-8 visited central HQ of Chaghcharan police where they spent three hours examining and providing medical assistance to 209 police officers, January 5. ”Central Government does not pay enough attention to Afghan National Police as well as for other key institutions of Ghowr administration. It was our decision to evaluate Chaghcharan police work by carrying out a medical examination at the police department," said Commander of PRT-8 Col. Vytautas Reklaitis.

Anniversary flag raising ceremony on January 1 in Gediminas Castle Tower

On January 1, Flag Day of the Republic of Lithuania, members of Lithuanian Armed Forces will raise national flag to fly in Gediminas Tower for the year coming year. It will be the 90th anniversary ceremony –national flag of Lithuania was first raised in the tower of Gediminas Castle on 1 January 1919 by a group of Lithuanian volunteers lead by Kazys Skirpa, Commandant of Vilnius.
