Thanks for Lithuanian soldiers in Afghanistan


Delegation led by Minister of National Defence Juozas Olekas visited Chaghcharan on July 31: they met with Governor of Ghowr Baz Mohammad Ahmadi, went to Hospital of Ghowr, took part in opening ceremony of the public park in Chaghcharan. Later the guests met with PRT-7 soldiers deployed in Chaghcharan and listened to a concert Marijonas Mikutavicius gave at request of Juozas Olekas.

Meeting with Governor of Ghowr addressed crucial needs of local citizens, possible support of Lithuania in building roads, and reconstructing airfield and hospital in Chaghcharan. Baz Mohammad Ahmadi thanked for Lithuania's support in reconstructing Ghowr while Lithuanian Minister of National Defence reaffirmed Lithuania's commitments.

Meeting with Head of Chaghcharan hospital Dr Juma Gul Jaqubi, Lithuanian delegation returned lung ventilation device. It was taken to Lithuania for repair when Minister of National Defence visited the hospital last time. Afterwards, delegation visited location of the future public park where Minister helped placing symbolic head stone of park fence and wished luck for workers. After dinner guests delivered Lithuanian bread and letters from soldiers' relatives to the PRT-7 camp and Minister J.Olekas cut the ribbon of the new sports facilities.

Delegation of the Minister of National Defence included Europarliamentarian Laima Liucija Andrikiene, member of National Security and Defence Committee of Seimas Milda Petrauskiene, Head of Lithuanian Special Mission in Afghanistan Aleksandras Matonis, and representatives of Foreign Affairs and National Defence Ministries.
