Lithuanian Chief of Defence went on an official visit to the UK

imgOn July 13 Chief of Defence of Lithuania Lieutenant General Valdas Tutkus went on official visit to the United Kingdom at an invitation of Chief of Defence of the United Kingdom Air Marshal Sir Jock Stirrup. In the framework of an official visit, Lt. Gen. V. Tutkus is scheduled to meet with Chief of Defence of the United Kingdom and officials of the UK Ministry of Defence. The Lithuanian Chief of Defence will also visit Crisis Management Centre, Training Unit Operations, Joint Services Command and Staff College.

An additional group of Lithuanian servicemen to deploy to a mission in Afghanistan

imgOn 15 July, the Lithuanian Military Motorised Infantry Brigade ”The Iron Wolf" in Rukla (Vilnius region) will have a ceremony related to leaving of troops to an international mission in Afghanistan. The ceremony was attended by the Commander of Staff of the Lithuanian Land Force and Commander of Land Force at Interim Colonel Sergejus Draščiukas, Commander of the Lithuanian Military Motorise Infantry Brigade ”Iron Wolf" Colonel Vilmantas Tamošaitis, commanders and troops of the battalions of MIB ”Geležinis Vilkas", representatives of Jonava town and region administration and families of the leaving troops.

Rotation of Logistic Support Unit exercise in Kazlu Ruda Military Ground before deployment to Afghanistan

imgExercise of soldiers of Logistic Support Unit to be sent to Afghanistan took place in Kazlu Ruda Military Ground from July 8 to 11. Logistic Support Unit to be deployed to Afghanistan by the end of July is manned by 28 soldiers of Lithuanian Grand Duke Vytenis General Support Battalion, Duke Vaidotas Forward Support Logistic Battalion, Logistic Command, Material Assets Department, etc. The unit will replace Logistic Support Unit of Lithuanian Armed Forces currently on mission with the Lithuanian-led PRT-7 in Ghowr.

Medal of Merit of National Defence System level for departing Defence Attaché of Estonia

imgOn June 10 farewell ceremony will be held for leaving Estonian Defence Attaché Cdr. Mati Orav at the Ministry of National Defence. Cdr. M.Orav will be awarded National Defence System Medal of Merit for his merit and personal contribution to strengthening defence cooperation of Lithuania and Estonia.

imgChange of command of the Baltic Naval Squadron (BALTRON) will take place in Tallinn, Estonia, on July 10. Estonian Naval Force Cdr. Andrei Leit who led BALTRON till present will be replaced by officer of Lithuanian Naval Force Cdr. Eugenijus Valikovas.

Governor of Ghowr: Ghowr province without poppy fields

imgGovernor of Ghowr province Baz Mahommad Ahmadi held press conference on eradication of poppy fields in the province, Chaghcharan, July 5. img6 June 2008 will be the 18th time Lithuania celebrates the Day of Crowning Lithuanian King Mindaugas and the State Day. Soldiers of Lithuanian Armed Forces will mark the occasion by raising the State flag and the historical national flag in Simonas Daukantas Square in Vilnius.

Four ceremonies will be held at the Flotilla of Warships in Klaipeda on June 4: P11 boat will be commissioned for duty, anniversaries of Lithuanian Naval Force and boat ”Suduvis" will be marked, and command of Naval Force will change.

Accreditation of new US Defence and Army Attaché

New Defence and Army Attaché of the US Lt. Col. David Millner will be accredited to Lithuania at the Ministry of National Defence on July 2. The leaving Lt. Col. Joseph King will be awarded National Defence System Medal of Merit.
