National Defence Minister meet with Secretary of State of France for Defence and Veterans

On June 5 National Defence Minister Juozas Olekas will meet with French Parliamentary Secretary of State for Defence and Veterans Jean-Marie Bockel. Priorities of France's EU presidency, issues of bilateral cooperation and participation of France in the Baltic air-policing mission will be addressed. France has been participating in the mission since March-August 2007. It is planned that France will provide two more rotations for the mission before 2011.

Two cadets of Lithuanian Military Academy will study in the United States Military Academy

Two Lithuanian cadets selected for studies at the US Military Academy will be congratulated at a ceremony in the US Embassy in Vilnius on June 5.
Future US cadets will shake hands with Ambassador John Cloud, the ceremony will also be attended by families and friends of cadets, representatives of National Defence Ministry, etc.

Meeting with PRT-7 commander Afghan teachers and students regretted about the Chaghcharan riot

Commander of PRT-7 Col. Ramunas Baronas and Deputy Head of the Special Mission Marius Alekna met with executives of Ghowr Education Department and directors of the main educational institutions of Ghowr, June 2. Afghan representatives expressed regrets about the riot of May 22 in which Lithuanian member of PRT-7 was killed.

Land Force Commander Brig. Gen. Jonas Vytautas Zukas will visit international staff exercise Yellow Knight in Denmark, June 4-6. Over 170 soldiers of the Motorised Infantry Brigade Iron Wolf were sent to international exercise organised by the Danish Division.

New Lithuania' patrol boat piered in Klaipeda Seaport

The latest purchase of Lithuanian Naval Force patrol boat P11 with crew of 22 and Danish advisors piered at Naval Force Flotilla of Warships quay in Klaipeda on June 1. The boat is led by Captain Lt. Alvydas Cerniauskas. Solemn ceremony of transferring the boat to Lithuania took place on May 30 in Denmark; it was attended by leaderships of Lithuanian and Danish naval forces, ambassadors and other guests.

Members of Lithuanian-led PRT in Ghowr taught local police to suppress riot

On June 2 Lithuanian-led PRT-7 organised riot suppression exercise for Chaghcharan police. Training with American policemen was also conducted by two Lithuanian policemen.

Homecoming and award ceremony of PRT-6 after mission in Afghanistan will take place in Panevezys Freedom Square on April 2 at 10 a.m. Ceremony will be attended by National Defence Minister Juozas Olekas, Chief of Defence Lt. Gen. Valdas Tutkus, Land Force Commander Brig. Gen. Jonas Vytautas Zukas, representatives of Panevezys district, region and city, seniors of armed forces' units, relatives of soldiers, participants of resistance fights, and other guests.

Motorised Infantry Brigade Iron Wolf leave for exercise in Denmark

Soldiers of the Motorised Infantry Brigade Iron Wolf will be taking part in staff exercise Yellow Knight from June 2 to 6. The exercise will be held in Denmark, Oksbøl region. Over 170 professional and compulsory military service soldiers leave for the exercise organised by the Danish Division taking along mobile HQ, communications and other equipment ensuring command of the brigade staff and other units.

On June 12-13 Minister of National Defence Juozas Olekas took part in formal NATO Defence Ministers' meeting in Brussels, Belgium. NATO Defence Ministers' discussed security situation in Afghanistan. Juozas Olekas representing Lithuania thanked members and partners of the Alliance for the support received in Ghowr.

Chief of Defence of Lithuania Lt. Gen. Valdas Tutkus will be visiting Iceland from June 23 to 26. He departed for the official visit at invitation of Thórir Ibsen, Director of Defence Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iceland (a post corresponding to Chief of Defence).
