German contingent took over Baltic Air-policing mission

On June 30 NATO Baltic Air-policing mission was transferred from Polish Air Force soldiers to German contingent. The ceremony took place at the Lithuanian Air Force Aviation Base in Siauliai. This is the second time German forces deploy soldiers for the Baltic Air-policing mission. They patrolled Baltic airspace from June to September in 2005 for the first time.

On June 30 Cdr. Johannes de Brouwer, new Dutch Defence Attaché, will be accredited for Lithuania at the Ministry of National Defence. The departing Defence Attaché Cdr. Bruno Gerrits will be awarded the Medal of Merit of the national defence system for personal contribution to strengthening cooperation of Lithuanian andDutch armed forces. Cdr. Bruno Gerrits started as Defence Attaché for Lithuania in 2003.

Lithuanian Chief of Defence Lt. Gen. Valdas Tutkus will attend ceremony of change of NATO Military Committee's Chairman, June 27-28, Brussels. The post will be assumed by Chief of Defence Staff of Italy Adm. Giampaolo Di Paola who was elected in November 2007. He will replace Gen. Raymond Henault, Chief of Defence Staff of Canadian Armed Forces.

Change of command of Motorised Infantry Brigade Iron Wolf

On June 27 solemn change of command ceremony will be held in the square of the Motorised Infantry Brigade Iron Wolf.
Col. Darius Uzkuraitis who has led the brigade since 2005 will be replaced by Col. Vilmantas Tamosaitis, former chief of staff of brigade. Col. D. Uzkuraitis will hand over his duties and leave to study at the NATO Defence College in Rome.

Afghan National Police trained for cooperative action with military forces in Chaghcharan

Team of US police advisors deployed with Lithuanian-led PRT-7 taught Afghan policemen fulfilling tasks in cooperation with military forces in Ghowr, June 22-25, Chaghcharan.
Members of local police learnt fulfilling duties necessary in long-term patrolling, preparing weapons and vehicles before patrolling, practiced driving. Some of policemen had never driven cars before.
