Commander of Lithuanian Special Operations Force appointed

National Defence Minister Juozas Olekas passed an order on appointment of Lithuanian Armed Forces Special Operations Force commander, April 30. The new commander will assume the post from May 8.

ISAF leadership visited Lithuanian Ghowr PRT

Lithuanian-led Ghowr PRT-6 was visited by ISAF Commander Gen. Dan K. Mcneill and Commander of Regional Command West Brig. Gen. Francesco Arena, April 29. The first to arrive Brig. Gen. Francesco Arena viewed facilities of the PRT-6 camp, heard introduction on the camp structure, tasks, achievements, and planned changes. When the delegation was joined by Gen. Dan K. Mcneill, the guests left for Chaghcharan to see objects in the capital established by joint effort of Lithuanian development cooperation and international support organisations.

Lithuanian military experts assist investigating incident in Georgia

This weekend two aircraft and radar experts of Lithuanian Armed Forces left for Georgia where they will join international group of experts conducting independent investigation regarding Georgian surveillance drone shot-up over Abkhazia.

Staff of Baltic Battalion took part in exercise in Tartu

Staff of Lithuanian Grand Duke Mechanised Infantry Battalion participated in joint training ”Intelligent Wolf" of the Baltic Battalion staff in Tartu (Estonia) on April 21-25. The exercise, also attended by the Baltic Battalion Staff representatives from Estonia and Latvia, was headed by Commander of the Baltic Battalion Maj. Remigijus Baltrenas.

Last compulsory basic military service soldiers finished service in Algirdas Battalion

33 last soldiers of compulsory basic military service finished service in Lithuanian Grand Duke Algirdas Mechanised Infantry Battalion in Rukla (Jonava region), April 26. From now on Algirdas Battalion will be manned only by soldiers of professional military service.

Baltic Chiefs of Defence two-day meeting in Birstonas was closed, April 25. Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia were represented by the Lithuanian Armed Forces Commander Lt. Gen. Valdas Tutkus, Latvian Armed Forces Commander Gen. Maj. Juris Maklakovs, and Estonian Armed Forces Commander Lt. Gen. Ants Laaneots respectively.

Commanders of Lithuanian Land Force and Joint Staff appointed

By order of National Defence Minister Brig. Gen. Vytautas Jonas Zukas was appointed as commander of Lithuanian Land Force and Brig. Gen. Algis Vaiceliunas – as commander of Chief of Joint Staff, April 23. Before promotion Brig. Gen. V. J. Zukas was Acting Field Force Commander and Brig. Gen. A. Vaiceliunas – Joint Staff project manager.

Awards for returning KFOR-17 in Alytus

Formal homecoming ceremony will be held for KFOR-17 returning after the mission in Kosovo Republic on April 25 in Alytus Town Hall Square. KFOR-17 members will be awarded National Defence System medals For International Operations.
