Stand-by period of Special Operation Squadron Aitvaras in NATO Response Force begin 2008.01.10
  On January 10 squadron Aitvaras of the Lithuanian Special Operations Unit begins its duty period in NATO Response Force Special Operations Component. The squadron will maintain high readiness level throughout the six-month stand-by period, in case of crisis it will be prepared to join a NATO-led operation and take up the main tasks of NRF special operations - special surveillance and observation, small-scale short term attacks, terrorist seizure and neutralization operations, etc.
