Lithuanian resident doctor share experience with midwives of Ghowr

Two-day courses for midwives of Ghowr ended in the Chaghcharan hospital on November 5. Twenty doctors and midwives gathered to Chaghcharan from the seven districts of Ghowr. They listened to lectures on physiology of pregnancy and childbearing, post-birth complications, and first hygiene procedures of the newborn, and learned through practical tasks. Instructor Julija Diomina, a Lithuanian resident doctor obstetrician gynaecologist, payed special attention to conveying the importance of hand cleaning and disinfecting. Most of the midwives were surprised to have been asked to take off their rings and bracelets before delivering birth or before touching the baby during the disinfecting lessons.

Lithuanian ”Kursis" on minehunt in Poland

Poland will host minehunting and sweeping exercise ”Polish Passex 07" in its territorial waters and exclusive economic zone on November 2-10. Warship of the Lithuanian Naval Force ”Kursis" (M51) lead by 1st Lt. Egidijus Oleskevicius will also be in the exercise. Currently the vessel is in the Baltic Squadron BALTRON. Ships of the Polish Naval Forces and Coast Guard, and other BALSTRON ships will also attend the exercise.

Lithuania's support help institutions of Ghowr develop capabilities

Despite Ghowr being named one of the safest provinces of Afghanistan, local institutions lack attention of international community and national government and are forced to ask the Lithuanian-led Ghowr Provincial Reconstruction Team to support their activity. After the analysis of situation and expedience of the demands several support projects were concluded this month. Foreign Affairs Ministry of Lithuania currently allocated 300 thousand litas for activity improvement of educational and security institutions. Support projects were completed by the Lithuanian soldiers deployed to the mission in Ghowr.
