Lithuanians donate computers and household devices for children of Kosovo

imgLithuanian soldiers serving in Kosovo province gave necessary household gadgets, audio and video devices and computer equipment for Albanian and Serbian children this week. The donation amounted to 30 thousand litas covered by the National Defence Ministry.

Royal Irish Rangers and National Defence Volunteer Force instructors hold peace support courses ”Baltic Exchange" at Kairiai Military ground

imgFrom September 1 to 14 peace support operation courses ”Baltic Exchange" are taking place at Kairiai Military ground of the Grand Duke of Lithuania Butikgeidis Dragoon Training Battalion. The courses are conducted by the Royal Irish Rangers and NDVF instructors for the soldiers of Motorised Infantry Brigade ”Iron Wolf”, General Jonas Zemaitis Lithuanian Military Academy and National Defence Volunteer Force (NDVF).

Lithuanian minehunter ”Suduvis" find and destroy torpedo

imgTwo torpedoes were found during the mine counter measure exercise ”Route Survey" that had begun in the Lithuanian waters on September 10. Seven Standing NATO Response Mine Counter Measure Group ships from 6 countries take part in the exercise. The explosives were found, identified, and destroyed by the Lithuanian Navy minehunter and minesweeper ”Suduvis" and Belgium Navy ship ”Primula".

Lithuanian waters become safer

imgInternational mineclearance operation ”Open Spirit 07" taking place in Lithuanian territorial waters and exclusive economic zone was closed in Klaipeda on September 9. Territory of 90 nautical miles or about 170 square kilometres was covered by 19 warships from 10 countries. Two threatening explosives - a mine and a torpedo - were found and successfully destroyed during the operation.

NATO vessels continue to comb Lithuanian waters

imgSeven NATO Rapid Response Fleet ships including Lithuanian Navy minehunter ”Suduvis" (M52) departed from Klaipeda port and opened mineclearance exercise „Route Survey” in Lithuanian waters on September 10. On request of Lithuanian Navy unit of six countries' ships led by the Belgian Navy Commander Serge Ots continue mine countermeasures in unexplored area of Lithuanian waters. The unit left after the ”Open Spirit 07" operation closed on September 9.

imgLithuanian soldiers in Ghowr bought and handed over sound equipment for Ghowr mosques on September 6. It was one of quick impact projects conducted to support local community. 65 loudspeakers, microphones, batteries and other equipment was bought for 33 thousand litas.

Italian Land Force Commander visit King Mindaugas Motorised Infantry Battalion

imgOn September 2-4 Commander Italian Land Forces Lieutenant General Filiberto Cecchi with delegation comes on his first official visit to Lithuania. On September 3 the guest accompanied by the Lithuanian Land Force Commander Brigadier General Arvydas Pocius visited the Motorised Infantry Brigade ”Iron Wolf" King Mindaugas Motorised Infantry Battalion currently preparing for mission in Afghanistan.

NATO High-ranking official devote attention to Ghowr development

imgAs Lithuanian diplomats and soldiers emphasised for the NATO Senior Civilian Representative in Afghanistan Ambassador Daan Everts during his visit in Chaghcharan on September 1-2, remoteness and stability of Ghowr province should not become the reason for the central authority and international community to pay less attention to the region than to provinces suffering from clashes.
