European Commission welcome Lithuania's successful handling of the EU resources in Afghanistan

imgIn the European Defence Ministers' meeting in Evora (Portugal) on September 29 European Commission stated that Lithuania is the most successful country to handle the EU Afghanistan Provincial Reconstruction Assistance funding for civilian programmes. This year Lithuania received and employed 400 thousand euros for Afghan National Police enhancement in Ghowr. The resources will be used for building 9 new police stations, buying means of transportation, mobile criminal laboratories, and organisation of training sessions

Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia jointly purchase ammunition for projectors Carl Gustaf

On September 27 Lithuanian Armed Forces signed ammunition purchasing agreement with Swedish company Saab Bofors Dynamic AB on Carl Gustaf projectors. Company Saab Bofors Dynamic AB was chosen as the most appropriate supplier for Lithuanian, Latvian, and Estonian ammunition purchasing.

Fire delivered at PRT camp in Ghowr, Afghanistan

At night from Friday to Saturday fire was delivered at Lithuanian-led PRT camp in Afghanistan, Ghowr province. Nobody was injured. Twenty minutes to midnight according to local time four missiles were fired from the North side at the camp of Ghowr PRT in Chaghcharan. Non of them reached camp territory.

Lithuanian warship ”Kursis" on minehunt in Estonia

imgFrom September 28 to October 5 exercise for minehunting and sweeping vessels Amber Sea 07 will take place in Latvian waters and exclusive economic zone. Lithuania will be represented by the Lithuanian Navy ship ”Kursis" (M51) commanded by 1st Lt. Egidijus Oleskevicius. The exercise will also be attended by Latvian Navy and Coast Guard ships as well as Air Force helicopter.

National Defence Minister participate in events organised in Ireland in memory of pilot Feliksas Vaitkus

On September 30 National Defence Minister J.Olekas will leave for Ireland were he will take part in commemoration events organised in Bellinrobe town for the 10th anniversary of Lithuanian pilot Feliksas Vaitkus and flight of ”Lituanika II" across the Atlantic.

National Defence Minister take part in the EU Defence Ministers' meeting in Portugal

On September 28-29 Defence Minister J.Olekas will participate in an informal Defence Ministers of the European Union meeting held at Evora City in Portugal. The main focus of the meeting will be put on the EU led operations and security and defence relations between the EU with other international organisations

Lithuanian deminers assisted destroying missiles and anti-tank mines collected in the Afghanistan province of Ghowr

imgOn September 24 deminers of Ghowr PRT-5 together with Afghan experts destroyed explosives collected in the province. According to the Head of PRT-5 Demining Department Master Sergeant Arturas Traskovskis, sixty-four 107 mm missiles and 74 anti-tank mines were destroyed.

Change of command ceremony of Lithuanian Land Forces

imgIn the National Defence Ministry Square change of command ceremony of the Lithuanian Land Forces took place on September 26. Brigadier General Arvydas Pocius who held the office previously was replaced by interim Land Force Commander Colonel Vytautas Jonas Zukas by order of the Defence Minister.

On September 25 National Defence Minister Juozas Olekas and his companion Chief of National Defence Ministry Defence Staff Brigadier General Vitalijus Vaiksnoras visit USA Air Forces Command in Europe at Ramstein Air Base (Germany) on invitation of the USA Ambassador in Lithuania John. A. Cloud.
