NATO member states' Land Forces Commanders' meeting

From June 11 to 13 the annual meeting of NATO countries' Land Forces commanders will be organised in Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria. Brigadier General Arvydas Pocius, Lithuanian Land Forces Commander, will take part as representative Lithuania.

Kaunas hosts international aviation feast ”Let's rise"

On Saturday, June 16, Armed Forces of Lithuania welcomes everyone to an international aviation feast in Kaunas held to mark the 15th anniversary of Lithuanian Air Force. Aircrafts of over 30 models from abroad will appear in the feast.

Commander of Afghanistan's Regional Command West visited Ghowr

imgOn June 5 PRT-5 camp was visited by the commander of Regional Command West Brigadier General Antonio Satta with delegation including the prospective commander Brigadier General Fausto Macor. Change of command ceremony is due in July.

President observed preparation of squadron ”Aitvaras" for Afghanistan mission

On June 7 President of the Republic of Lithuania Valdas Adamkus watched squadron ”Aitvaras" of Special Operations Unit (SOU) preparing in Kazlu Ruda polygon for mission in Afghanistan. The President arrived at the exercise guest day accompanied by the National Defence Minister Juozas Olekas and Lithuanian Armed Forces Commander Valdas Tutkus.

New Swedish Defence Attaché accredited

On June 6 the new Swedish defence attaché Col. Lt. Tapani Mattus will be accredited at the National Defence Ministry. The new attaché will replace Col. Lt. Leif Carlsson who has been the representative of Sweden in Lithuania since 2004.

USA oceanographic explorer ship USNS ”Henson" will visit Klaipeda

imgThe oceanographic USA explorer ship USNS ”Henson" will moor in Klaipeda seaport Cruiser and Warships Terminal on June 4 around 9 a.m. Although the ship belongs to the USA Navy it is crewed by civilians. It is the 4th T-AGS 60 class multi-purpose oceanographic explorer ship whose main function is gathering oceanographic information necessary for updating and compiling global charts.

Lithuanian and Finish defence ministers will meet in Klaipeda

National Defence Minister Juozas Olekas will meet with the Finish Defence Minister Jyri Häkämies in Klaipeda on June 28. The ministers plan to discuss Finland's experience of participation in the EU battle groups as well as development of NATO Response Force, and to share information on the projects of airspace surveillance and cooperation with neighbouring countries.
