Lithuanian Army purchase military equipment for the Ghowr PRT camp in Afghanistan

Lithuanian Army signed a 14.989m litas agreement with UAB ”Elsis" for military equipment procurement for the Lithuanian led Ghowr PRT camp on April 12. ”It is the first time Lithuanian Army will take care of military camp set up, supply, and maintenance itself. Up to present we have been relying on services and infrastructure provided by our partners", Colonel Lieutenant Valdas Dambrauskas, Deputy Chief for Logistics of Defence Staff under MoND said.

Baltic Force Commanders discuss joint projects

Today, April 12, Commander of Lithuanian Army General Major Valdas Tutkus left for the meeting of the three Baltic States force commanders in Tartu (Estonia) to discuss joint trilateral projects. Namely, the Baltic Defence College, the Baltic mine hunter project BALTRON, and the Baltic Air Police mission.

Lithuanian PRT plants fruit trees in the city of Chaghcharan

Over 3 thousand fruit tree saplings to be planted in different parts of Chaghcharan were transported to the Ghowr province of Afghanistan this week.
The saplings were selected from the Herat nursery gardens and transported to Chaghcharan by a Spanish military plain on concern of the PRT-4 and under supervision of the head of the PRT Staff Civil-Military Cooperation Department Maj. Marius Paukstas and Herat Liaison Officer Maj. Robertas Mazylis.

Lithuanian General to take command of EU Military Staff intelligence subdivision

From the beginning of the following week General Gintaras Bagdonas will enter the post of the deputy director of EU Military Staff in Brussels. He will be in charge of the EU Military Staff intelligence subdivision. Brigadier General G. Bagdonas will replace the Military Staff deputy director for intelligence General Major Joaõ Nuno Vaz Antunes. The director of EU Military Staff has six deputy directors. Each of them commands separate subdivision as appointed.

Preparation of Lithuanian soldiers for mission in Afghanistan completed

Today, April 6, the two-week exercise ”PRT Challenge 2007 II" of the 5th rotation troops of Afghanistan Provincial Reconstruction Team for Ghowr (PRT-5) was completed. The exercise took place at Butigeidis Training Dragoon Battalion and Kairiai Polygon in Klaipeda. The PRT-5 soldiers were trained and assessed by experienced members of the previous PRTs. Land Force Staff Commander Colonel Gediminas Jurgutis headed the event

The first time Lithuanians are to work as United Nations Military Observers for Georgia

Two Lithuanian officers left for Georgia on April 2 to participate in the United Nations Observer Mission in Georgia (UNOMIG) as military observers. It is the first time Lithuanians participate in a mission in Georgia as part of the United Nations Organisation.
On 2000-2005 nine Lithuanian officers took part in the Republic of Georgia and Russian Federation Boarder Surveillance mission under the European Security and Cooperation Organisation. Their responsibility was supervising traffic across the Russian-Georgian boarder.

Foreign defence attachés visit Ignalina nuclear-power station

On April 17 foreign defence attachés accredited to the Republic of Lithuania will visit Ignalina National Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) to view the operating reactor and to meet with the general manager of the plant Viktoras Sevaldinas. They will also visit Air Defence platoon for the INPP.
