Provincial Coordination Centre opened in Ghor by PRT initiative

img2006 11 09 Provincial Coordination Centre (PCC), designed for synchronising and coordinating security effort of all the structures in the province, was established and started operating by Lithuanian PRT for Ghor initiative. Opening ceremony was attended by the Head of PRT Colonel Vilmas Satas, Governor of Ghor Shah Abdul Ahad Afzali, Chief of Ghor Police General Shah Jahan Naserullah Noori, Director of National Directorate of Security Abdul Hamid Baklhi, heads of PRT Operations and Civilian-Military cooperation sections, Chief Deputy of Civilian Lithuanian Special Mission for PRT, advisers on police issues, representatives of USA police.

Commander of Royal Danish Navy will visit Lithuania

Danish Royal Navy Commander Rear Admiral Niels C. Wang will visit Lithuanian Navy (LN) in Klaipeda, 10-11 November. The meeting will address issues of bilateral cooperation: joint-exercise arrangement in the Baltic Sea region, supporting the Lithuanian Navy Centre. The Rear Admiral is to visit the Flotilla and Palanga Amber Museum.

Commander of Lithuanian Army participates in the meeting of EU Armies Commanders

imgThe Commander of Lithuanian Army General Major Valdas Tutkus left for the EU Military Committee meeting in Brusels (Belgium) on November 5. The meeting of the EU Armies Commanders generally focuses on the most important issues of EU Defence Policy, generation of military capabilities, and international operations. The Committee meetings are held biannually.

Minister of National Defence to participate in Nordic-Baltic Defence Ministers meeting

imgNational Defence Minister Juozas Olekas and his delegation will participate in a traditional Nordic and Baltic countries Defence Ministers meeting (NB8) in Oslo, Norway, on November 7-8. The Ministers will discuss the further prospects of countries' military co-operation, participation in international operations, supporting Ukraine, and other current issues of EU and NATO.

Lithuania-Moldova military co-operation discussed in Kisinev

The Minister of National Defence Juozas Olekas, on visit to Moldova as member of the Prime Minister of Lithuania delegation, met Valeriu Plesca, the Minister of National Defence of Moldova, November 3. During the meeting the ministers focused on bilateral military co-operation and the possibility of Moldavian experts joining the Lithuania-led Ghor Reconstruction Team in Afghanistan.

Representatives of Lithuania take part in SHIRBRIG staff exercise

Two Lithuanian officers are to take part in Valencia (Spain) Multi-national Standby High Readiness Brigade For UN Operations (SHIRBRIG) Staff exercise „White Dove 2006" on November 6–17. The exercise focuses on the development of UN peacekeeping operations procedures and operational planning process skills, and preparation for operating in the UN peacekeeping mission environment in force or staff of division levels.

The prospective Commander of Multi-National Force Division for Southeast Iraq visit Vilnius

General Major Jonathan D. Shaw, the prospective Commander of Multi-National Force Division for Southeast Iraq, comes to Vilnius on a one day visit on 2 November. The guest will meet the Minister of National Defence Juozas Olekas, the Army Commander General Major Juozas Tutkus, and then he will continue his visit in Lithuanian Land Force Headquarters where a rendezvous with the Commander of Lithuanian Land Force Brigadier General Arvydas Pocius is due.
