French Minister of Defence coming with an official visit to Lithuania 2004.06.30
![]() On Thursday, 1 July French Minister of Defence Michčle Alliot-Marie will come with an official visit to Lithuania. The French Minister of Defence and her Lithuanian counterpart Linas Linkevičius will discuss outcomes of NATO Istanbul Summit, participation in international military operations, possibilities of bilateral co-operation, exchange opinions on NATO and EU co-operation in the area of security and defence.
The high-ranking guest will have meetings with Prime Minister, Algirdas Brazauskas, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Antanas Valionis, and the Chairman of the Committee on National Security and Defence, Alvydas Sadeckas, and other committee members. Later in the day, the French Minister of Defence is scheduled to give a lecture at the Defence Staff of the Ministry of National Defence. |

Air-police functions in the Baltic States to be taken over by Danish personnel 2004.06.30

An official change of command ceremony to take place on Cathedral Square 2004.06.29
![]() On Wednesday, 30 June, at 1100hrs, the Lithuanian Armed Forces change of command ceremony will be held on Cathedral Square in Vilnius.
During the ceremony, the outgoing Commander of the Lithuanian Armed Forces Major General Jonas Kronkaitis will bid farewell to military personnel, the incoming Commander Brigadier General Valdas Tutkus will swear an oath of allegiance. Regalia of the Commander – sceptre, insignia of the Armed Forces Commander, the Lithuanian Armed Forces flag will be handed to the newly inaugurated Commander of the Lithaunian Armed Forces. Prior to this assignment, Brigadier General Valdas Tutkus served as Commander of the Lithuanian Land Force. |

National Defence Minister to attend meeting of NATO Ministers of Defence 2004.06.25

On the eve of NATO Summit Meeting of Heads of State and Government, Ministers of Defence will discuss implementation of Prague Capabilities Commitment concerning development of military forces, rapid reaction force; NATO operations are also expected to be addressed at the meeting. |

Seimas approved canditure for the Commander of the Armed Forces 2004.06.17
![]() Brigadier General Valdas Tutkus will become Commander of the Lithuanian Armed Forces. On Thursday, 17 June the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania unanimously, by 75 votes "in favour," approved candidature of Brigadier General Valdas Tutkus for the Commander of the Lithuanian Armed Forces. Brigadier General Tutkus will replace in the position the outgoing Major General Jonas Kronkaitis. According to the Constitution of the Republic of Lithuania, the President of the Republic appoints and dismisses, upon the approval of the Seimas, the Commander of the Armed Forces. |
