Defence Attachés accredited in Lithuania start spring tour in Minsk 2010.05.12
![]() May 13-14, Defence Attachés accredited to Lithuania began spring tour in Minsk, Belarus. Defence Attachés will visit Military Information Agency of the Belarusian Armed Forces VAJAR and listen to a presentation on development of the Belarusian Armed Forces and will familiarise with activity of the Military Academy of the Republic of Belarus.
During the two-day tour Defence Attachés and their spouses will also visit ethnographical museum Dudutki, National Library of the Republic of Belarus and excursion in Minsk. |

Delegation of the Joint Staff of the Lithuanian Armed Forces visits Afghanistan 2010.05.11

In Kabul Lithuanian delegation will pay a visit to ISAF headquarters where the head of the delegation Brig. Gen. A. Vaičeliūnas is expected to meet with the Chief of Staff ISAF Lt. Gen. Bruno Karsdorf, Maj. Gen. Claudio Mora Deputy Chief of Staff-Stability, ISAF, and other high-ranking ISAF officers. In the meetings progress of the Afghanistan operation from Stability to Transition phase will be addressed along with perspectives of ongoing and planned stabilisation operations of the international forces and plans of training Afghan Security Forces. |

Chief of Defence of Lithuania attended sessions of the EU and NATO Military Committees 2010.05.11

The EU Military Committee convened for one day: military operations of the EU, civilian-military cooperation, alternatives to peacekeeping operations were discussed, and development of the EU's military capabilities was reviewed. Currently military capabilities of the EU are deployed to ALTHEA (Bosnia and Herzegovina) and two operations off the Somali coast: ES NAVFOR Somalia (operation „Atalanta") and EUTRA SOMALIA. One Lithuanian officer serves with the EU operation in Bosnia and Herzegovina. |

New Commander of the Regional Command West visited Lithuanian-led PRT 2010.05.10

Brig. Gen. C. Berto conducted the visit in Chaghcharan to familiarise with the Lithuanian-led PRT, find out challenges and difficulties peacekeepers face in Ghowr, and to discuss the ways in which leadership of the Regional Command West could help to solve the problems. The guest addressed the points of interest in a discussion with Commander PRT-10 Col. Gediminas Macijauskas that was also joined by Commander PRT-11 Col. Gintaras Smaliukas, representatives of PRT-10 staff, the head of civilian element of the PRT Linas Linkevičius, civilian representatives of the United States and Japan. At the PRT camp Brig. Gen. C. Berto also discussed situation in the province with the Governor of Ghowr Mohammad Eqbal Muneeb, chiefs of Ghowr Police and National Security Department. |

Baltic Defence Ministers agreed upon the recommendations of the air-policing study 2010.05.07
![]() On May 7 Defence Ministers of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia convened in Vilnius. In the meeting Lithuanian Minister of National Defence Rasa Juknevičienė, Defence Minister of Latvia Imants Liegis and Defence Minister of Estonia Jaak Aaviksoo discussed points of trilateral defence and security cooperation. The Ministers highlighted highly productive and efficient defence cooperation of the Baltic States as a model for other countries' cooperation in other fields. Many of the Baltic defence cooperation projects began before the countries joined NATO and are relevant to this day. |

During the meeting perspectives of conducting collective defence procurement, cooperating in research and technology, strengthening regional cooperation with the nearest Nordic neighbours and Poland will be discussed. The meeting Ministers will close the meeting by sighing a joint communiqué. |

Chief of Defence of Lithuania will take part in the session of military committees of the EU and NATO 2010.05.03
![]() On May 4-7 Chief of Defence of Lithuania Maj. Gen. Arvydas Pocius will take part in the meetings of the EU Military Committee and NATO Military Committee in Brussels.
A one-day session of the EU Military Committee will focus on the EU-led operation in Bosnia and Herzegovina ALTHEA and the EUTRA SOMALIA operation yet to be launched. Lithuania has contributes a staff officer to the EU operation currently underway in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Alternatives of the peacekeeping operations the EU currently contributes personnel to were also addressed in the EU Military Committee. |

United States support prolongation of the Baltic Air-policing mission till 2018 and beyond 2010.04.30
![]() On April 30 Minister of National Defence of Lithuania Rasa Juknevičienė closed her nearly week-long work visit in the United States with a meeting with the US Secretary of Defence Robert Gates.
In the meeting representatives of both countries discussed Lithuanian-US military cooperation and its perspectives, and the new course of relations between Russia and the United States. |
