Maj. Gen. A. Pocius will honour the late military leadership of the Polish Armed Forces

imgApril 21, Chief of Defence of Lithuania Maj. Gen. Arvydas Pocius will go to Warsaw to pay tribute to the killed Chief of the General Staff (Chief of Defence) Gen. Franciszek Gągor and the rest of leadership of the Polish Armed Forces who died in a plane crash near Smolensk. Lithuanian CHOD will be accompanied by Defence Attaché of Lithuania to Poland Col. Eugenijus Vosylius.

Maj. Gen. A. Pocius by his visit will express respect for the late counterparts and to once again offer sympathy of the Lithuanian Armed Forces. The holy mass for the killed Chief of General Staff of the Polish Armed Forces will be said on Wednesday at the Church of the Gracious Mother of God of Warsaw, and the funeral will proceed in the military cemetery.

Representatives of Russian and Polish search and rescue services visit Lithuanian Naval Force

April 20-21, representatives of Lithuanian, Polish and Russian search and rescue services will meet at the Lithuanian Naval Forces Headquarters in Klaipėda in trilateral format. In the meeting joint search and rescue and pollution incident response training to be held on July-August in the Baltic Sea area of Kaliningrad Oblast.

 

The recent venue of the working meeting of representatives of Russian, Polish and Lithuanian search and rescue services last autumn was in Kaliningrad.

imgApril 16, Defence Resources Management Institute (DRMI) delivered presentation to the leadership of the Ministry of National Defence Balandžio „Defence procurement: requirements and logistic, management of life cycle". DMRI lecturers reviewed present military logistics, life cycle and supply chain, drafting and testing requirements for capabilities.

 

Leadership of the Ministry of National Defence, leading officers of the Defence Staff of the Ministry of National Defence, Joint Staff of the Lithuanian Armed Forces, and branches of the national armed forces listened to the presentation.

Seminar of the Baltic Defence Committee in Tartu ended

imgApril 16, two-day meeting of the Baltic Military Committee in Tartu (Estonia) ended. The event was attended by the Chief of Defence of Lithuania Maj. Gen. Arvydas Pocius, Chief of Defence of Latvia Maj. Gen. Juris Maklakovs, and Chief of Defence of Estonia Lt. Gen. Ants Laaneots and delegations. The Committee was chaired by the Chief of Defence of Estonia.

 

The discussion focussed on the undergoing cooperation among the Baltic States: implementation of the NATO Baltic Air-policing mission, development of the Baltic Defence College and stepping up officer training.

Warsaw Minister of National Defence paid tribute to the late President of Poland and leadership of the Polish Armed Forces

April 15, Minister of National Defence Rasa Juknevičienė, Prime Minister Andrius Kubilius, and governmental delegation honoured memory of the late President of Poland Lech Kaczynski, his wife, leadership of the Polish Armed Forces, and other victims of the air crash in Warsaw.

 

The governmental delegation bid the last farewell to the President L. Kaczynski and his wife Maria at the Presidential Palace, laid a funeral wreath on behalf of the Government of Lithuania and signed in a condolence book.

Head of the EU Police Mission in Afghanistan visited Lithuanian-led Chaghcharan PRT

imgApril 12, delegation led by the Head of the EU Police Mission in Afghanistan (EUPOL) Commissioner Kai Vittrup and escorted by the Ambassador of the Lithuanian Special Mission in Afghanistan Valteris Baliukonis visited the Lithuanian-led Chaghcharan PRT. The guests met with the Commander of the 10th rotation of PRT Col. Gediminas Macijauskas, and officers of the EUPOL Team serving in the PRT.

 

The visit to Chaghcharan PRT was the first Head of EUPOL's visit to a PRT operated under ISAF and a EUPOL Team deployed with it. K. Vittrup's selected a meeting with representatives of EUPOL mission and command of the PRT of Ghowr for his first visit to ISAF mission in Afghanistan.

U.S. Naval Forces Europe-U.S. Naval Forces Africa Fleet Master Chief visited Lithuanian Naval Force

imgApril 14-15, US Naval Forces Europe-US Naval Forces Africa Fleet Master Chief Master Chief Petty Officer (SW/AW/NAC) Bradley N. LeVault and US Navy Sixth Fleet Master Chief Petty Officer MCPO Jay R. Wood paid a friendly study visit in the Lithuanian Naval Force. Master Chief Petty Officers serve in the US Naval Forces Europe Command in Naples (Italy).

 

At the Lithuanian Naval Force Headquarters LNF Master Chief Petty Officer MCPO Gediminas Zabitis presented to the guests non-commissioned officer corps training and career system in the Lithuanian Armed Forces, and MCPO Michailas Karpuzovas briefed them on the structure, tasks, and ships and other equipment of the Lithuanian Naval Force. After the presentation the guests noted high qualification of non-commissioned officer corps in the Lithuanian Naval Force.

Training organised by the Danish Division in Rukla ended

imgApril 14, two-day international staff exercise „Red Knight" organised by the Danish Division in Lithuania (Rukla, Jonava Distr.) ended. The event provided opportunity for staff personnel of the Motorised Infantry Brigade (MIB) „Iron Wolf" to enhance their skills of planning and implementing international defence operations in a superior military unit.

 

MIB „Iron Wolf" took part in the training led by representatives of the Danish Division's staff, also providing personnel for the superior headquarters of the training, in composition a unit assigned to the Danish Division for the event.

Representatives of Malaysia took interest in the experience of the Lithuanian-led PRT of Ghowr

imgApril 9, while visiting Afghanistan delegation of the Armed Forces and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Malaysia paid a visit to Ghowr province protected by the Lithuanian-led PRT. In the delegation were Maj. Gen. Abd Rahim, Chief of Joint Staff of Malaysia, and Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Kazlan Rashid. In the provincial capital Chaghcharan the guests met with representatives of local administration, later they visited the PRT camp and met with Commander PRT-10 Col. Gediminas Macijauskas, civilian and military personnel of the PRT.

 

According to the head of the delegation Maj. Gen. A. Rahim, it was an information gathering visit, a stage in Malaysia's consideration of joining ISAF operation in Afghanistan. Representatives of Malaysia also visited several other provinces including Bamiyan and Uruzgan guarded by ISAF PRTs and met with members of PRTs for a discussion over the possibilities of cooperation.

„I am deeply shocked by the air tragedy in Smolensk that has claimed lives of the President of the Republic of Poland Lech Kaczynski and his wife Maria, leadership of the armed forces, Catholic Bishop of the Polish Armed Forces Gen. Tadeusz Ploski, Orthodox Ordinary Archbishop Brig. Gen. Miron Chodakowski, other clergy and members of delegation.

 

I preserve a live memory and I am grateful for sincere collaboration for the Catholic Bishop of the Polish Armed Forces Division General Tadeusz Ploski.
