Chief of Defence of Lithuania on visit in Afghanistan

March 15, Chief of Defence of Lithuania Maj. Gen. Arvydas Pocius left for Afghanistan to meet with the Lithuanian-led PRT-10, to discuss course of the multinational operation with ISAF representatives, and meet with representatives of provincial administration of Ghowr. Lithuanian CHOD will also deliver to deployed peacekeepers Easter gifts from home.

March 16, Minister of National Defence of Lithuania Rasa Juknevičienė met with Ambassador of the Commonwealth of Australia to Lithuania Paul Stephens.

 

In the meeting at the Ministry of National Defence operation in Afghanistan of the International Security Assistance Force in which Lithuania and Australia are taking an active part was discussed, opinions were exchanged on inducement of possible bilateral cooperation in military area, and Australia's relations with NATO addressed.

NATO holds air training event in the Baltic skies for the fifth time

imgMarch 17, Headquarters Allied Air Command Ramstein (HQ AC Ramstein, Germany) will conduct Baltic Region Training Event V (BRTE V) in the airspace above Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia. The event is designed to enhance control of NATO Airspace Surveillance and Control over the Baltic region as well as to provide training opportunity to air assets deployed on NATO's Baltic Air-policing mission.

March 15, in J.Matejko's Hall of the National Museum of Poland (in Warsaw) by the „Battle of Grunwald" painting of J.Matejko Vice Minister of National Defence Vytautas Umbrasas and Vice Minister of Culture and National Heritage of Poland Piotr Żuchowski signed a Protocol of Intent committing to cooperate in staging the 600th anniversary of the Battle of Grunwald.

March 10, Minister of National Defence Rasa Juknevičienė will award reviewer of The Economist magazine and expert of Middle and Eastern European economy and policy Edward Lucas the National Defence System Medal of Merit for civilians on the 20th anniversary of Restoration of Independence Day. The award will be bestowed for the noted British reporter for personal contribution to strengthening Lithuania's national defence.

On March 10, Defence Attachés accredited to Lithuania by foreign countries were called to gather at the Ministry of National Defence for a meeting with Rasa Juknevičienė, Minister of National Defence. Vice Minister of National Defence Vytautas Umbrasas and other representatives of the Ministry of National Defence were also present during the event. The meeting was a part of traditional visit program of foreign Defence Attachés accredited to Lithuania.
